I admire Henri Cartier-Bresson's work, in particular this photograph of Francois Mauriac.
it has some surprising qualities; the horizontal compositional split
and the way the figure slides out of the bottom edge,
the quality of the room and how it is detached from the figure,
all reminicent of Ando Hiroshige, who Cartier-Bresson admired.
The other aspect of his work that I admire is the limitation he placed on his medium -
M series Leica with a 50mm lens, using Kodak Tri-X film.
